I read today that Pearl Jam is going to re-release their debut album Ten in several sets ranging from a standard 2 disc set all the way through a box set containing discs, vinyl, dvd and memorabilia. I’ve been a fan of PJ for as long as I can remember not just for their music but for their political and social voice, as well as their respect and understanding of the power or art. The care and generosity they show for their fans is just one more thing to admire about them, and this box set is no exception. Pearl Jam is a band that always seems to be looking out for it’s fans and giving them the best. Rather than simply rehashing their album with some updated packaging, etc., they have spent considerable time generating the “goodies” for this release. I am genuinely excited to get ahold of this set as a way to celebrate what the band is doing as well as the memories of hearing their music for the first time. The artistic and political atmosphere they create has influenced me as an artist, musician and human being. I have been extremely lucky to meet and shake hands with Mike McCready, one of the most sincere and down to earth people you could ever meet, and they deserve such a landmark celebration of their work. Luckily for all of us they seem to just be getting started.
