So this is one of those things that I feel was done just for the sake of art and it’s pretty cool. Stanley Donwood, the man responsible for almost all art associated with Radiohead, has started his own record label. But wait, there’s a catch. There are only 3 releases that this label will ever put out and there’s only 333 copies of each release. Plus, each disc is packaged in a custom sleeve, hand cut and assembled by Stanley and a gent named Richard Lawrence. The track listing and artist information is letterpressed onto the case. Clearly a labour of love (I couldn’t help but add the extra “u” in labour) and a project that gets the designer in me all giddy. Needless to say I ordered one, #2 in fact, and have now discovered a terrific new singer from the UK, Mara Carlyle. Take a peek at 6inchrecords.com to learn more about the project and the process. Jolly good show blokes!
