Rich versus poor, left versus right
Here is an excerpt from a thought provoking and empassioned speech given by Granny D (grannyd.com) about the struggles between the rich and the poor in this country. Whether you agree with her or not, it's an insightful speech given by a 95 year old woman.
"We meet in a time when two great and growing divisions are separating us as Americans: rich versus poor, and left versus right. I would like to speak to the second of these, as its resolution would help solve the other.
The political issues that divide the American people are great issues, with severe consequences for the moral life of the nation and the fate of the planet. These are issues equal to the issues that divided us in 1860, and we should fear the historical similarities."

Wow. I'd say Granny D has an axe to grind. It's too bad that she's painting with such a broad brush anyone who seems to have christian beliefs and tries to follow their religion as such evil people. Linking God, the President, and Husbands with Ayatollahs seems a bit harsh to me.
D-Rock, you know me, and I don't think you'd paint me with so harsh a brush.
I've never been one to advocate broad generalizations of any race or religion so I would have to agree with my friend Dennis on that. I like to judge people by their actions, not their beliefs. After all, who am I to say I am right and you are wrong? I do agree that perhaps some can be too rigid in their thinking and I think that now, more than ever, we need more free thinking in this country. It may not always yield the best ideas, but you gotta break some eggs before, well, you know the rest. Besides, when it does work it can be extraordinary.
I have nothing but respect and admiration for people of any faith, as long as it is genuine. Nothing I hate more than a hypocrite. I don't judge religions, I judge what people do with the morals and doctrines of the religions they claim to adhere to. Real faith is a beautiful thing and I have been fortunate enough to know many people throughout my life who have shown me that beauty.
Nicely put. Or as Emo Phillips once said, "Why be prejudiced against anyone because of their race or nationality or creed... when there're so many real reasons to hate people?"
