Supergood: Illustration Friday - Broken

Supergood: Illustration Friday - Broken
Well folks, we've broken through. Our logo has been featured in another artists' awesome work. To say that we're a little choked up would be an undertatement. Be sure and check out Chad's Supergood website and his Illustration Friday entry for Broken. (I know it's pictured above but there's plenty more great stuff on his blog so get over there, now!)

Rock posters

I just finished a website for www.houseofsound.com and the bulk of the design revolves around 12 rock posters I designed. Needless to say I had quite a bit of fun working on these. Here are three of them, not necessariy my favorites (quite frankly I love them all) but I don't want go all the way on our first date. I'll post more later, if you're all gentle.
Whaaaa?

abcnews.com article
The girls definitely know their target audience.
Sad. Hopefully these girls will grow up to see beyond the hate that's been deluged over their childhood.
Maybe they wouldn't be so into it if they had to shave their heads. "What? Whites kick ass and all but I have to shave my head? Screw that. Where's the nearest Benetton?"
Illustration Friday: Remote

Ah, another week and another Illustration Friday assignment. I kinda struggled with this one, as I'm trying to improve my technique while pushing myself to do something bigger and better than I've done before. I'm making baby steps and learning more each time, but that massive expression of my vision continues to elude me. It's still fun though, and that's what counts.
My original concept for this illustration was far grander, but there are a couple of clues to what that idea was. If you look closely enough you might figure it out. This turned out to be a mere portion of the original idea. If you need a hint, think of a 70's television show that featured an actor who went on to play a tv cop, a tv lawyer and a pageant judge in a Sandra Bullock movie. If you need an audio clue, Damnit Jim, click here!
Have fun!

I've been tagged!
So I’ve been tagged by my friend Dennis West. The idea with tagging is that you come up a list of 20 things about yourself to put on your blog. Then, you take the time it took to come up with the list and then tag as many people as minutes it took you. I took about 5 minutes to come up with my list so I’ll be tagging five folks at the end of the post.
20 Things about D Rock
1. Have been happily married to my beautiful wife for 6 years.
2. Have a wonderful 2 year old son who makes me smile every minute I’m with him.
3. I’m a graphic designer by day, and sometimes long into the night.
4. Had to give up my nocturnal activities as a super hero to pursue freelance design work. The pay is much better...
5. Have an unhealthy love for a few TV series including The Shield, 24, Lost, Seinfeld and Family Guy.
6. I was taken by complete sup rise when I saw Fellowship of the Ring since I had never read the books before. Probably the most moving cinematic experience I’ve ever had. Second only to seeing The Empire Strikes Back for the first time when I was 8.
7. I love the original Star Wars Trilogy, though I can only tolerate the prequels. I have given up being bitter about it though, it’s a bit unhealthy and immature. But on a good night I can curse up a blue streak about how bad the new ones are!
8. Have recently started an online T-Shirt design company called dumbgun with my good friend Trevor. (Shameless plug #1)
9. Hershey’s chocolate. Need I say more?
10. Have a dog named Rumble. He’s an Australian Shepherd, easily the coolest dog ever.
11. Favorite movies include the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Star Wars, Fight Club, The Incredibles, American Beauty, Mallrats, The Station Agent, Spiderman 2, X-Men 2, Braveheart, Superman, Toy Story 2, The Iron Giant, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Office Space.
12. Favorite food? Probably pizza.
13. Recently took up biking to work, though haven’t been doing much lately after starting a new job. There’s nowhere for me to get cleaned up like my last job and I tend to get messy when I ride.
14. Can think of nothing better to do for fun than to spend time with my wife and son, no matter what we decide to do together. The idea of having a family board game night sounds like such a good time to me!
15. My favorite part of the day? When I put my son to bed and read him Goodnight Moon. It’s usually just me and him in his room and it’s so quiet and he just smiles at me the whole time.
16. I don’t watch reality shows because I ride the bus to work often and that’s as much reality as I can take. Seriously, any authors or screenwriters out there who are stuck on their current projects need only ride the bus for inspiration. These people are unreal.
17. Favorite band is Pearl Jam.
18. Concerts I’ve been to include Pearl Jam (twice), Radiohead (twice), Joe Satriani (3 times), Tool (twice), Sarah McLachlan (Finally! Excellent show by the way...). Best one has to be Pearl Jam in Vancouver BC, September 2005. Followed closely by Sarah McLachlan...
19. Recently finished a web site for House Of Sound that I’m quite proud of, the artwork at least. (Shameless plug #2)
20. I enjoy having fist fights with full size soup cans. Especially Chicken and Stars. That guy pisses me off.
*Bonus Fact!*
21. Nascar. I don’t get it. I can appreciate the skill needed to do it, I know I couldn’t, but the people who watch it confuse me. Just how exciting can it be to watch 50 cars go around in a big circle 500 times? The only thing good about it are the crashes, except that delays the end of the race, which just can’t come fast enough. Perhaps if the cars went 500 MPH the race would be over quicker. Nah, they’d probably just add more laps. Give me a sweet double play or a game winning home run any day over that nonsense.

Upper Decker W

Trey here!
Had w over for dinner last week. It was a pot luck and 'ol arbusto brought the cole slaw. Mmmm...cole slaw. Anyway, we got into a debate over God's place in pro baseball. I agreed that, yes, God is everywhere but I drew the line when it comes to God being physically inside the hot dogs at Ameriquest Field. Everytime he ate one, the hot dog told him to be president. It was a heated debate. This guy is nuts.
Well, this picture was taken right before we discovered that 'ol w had left us an upper decker. Now an upper decker has nothing to do with baseball but is when the reservoir lid is taken off the toilet and the person proceeds to defecate in the reservoir. Now the odor could stick around for quite some time, if you're not saavy to the tactic of "Upper Decking". I've heard stories of people tearing out their entire bathroom trying to figure out where the smell came from. That's borderline terrorism. I'll bet it's been in an Al Qaeda pamphlet. If you look at D Rock in the picture, he could tell something was up.
Stupid fucking frat guys.
Illustration Friday: Cold

Well, here's my latest Illustration Friday entry for Cold. I'm really enjoying the weekly assignment of IF since it gives me a reason to get back into illustrating, something I haven't done for years. This one was actually done without too much illustration, but I'm using my Wacom tablet a lot more on these and other images I'm working on. I've got a particular way of making my images but by using the tablet and doing more of it by hand and eliminating the need to scan things in it's opened up more options for me. It's always a fun thing to do each week and I look forward to doing more of them.

Rich versus poor, left versus right
Here is an excerpt from a thought provoking and empassioned speech given by Granny D (grannyd.com) about the struggles between the rich and the poor in this country. Whether you agree with her or not, it's an insightful speech given by a 95 year old woman.
"We meet in a time when two great and growing divisions are separating us as Americans: rich versus poor, and left versus right. I would like to speak to the second of these, as its resolution would help solve the other.
The political issues that divide the American people are great issues, with severe consequences for the moral life of the nation and the fate of the planet. These are issues equal to the issues that divided us in 1860, and we should fear the historical similarities."

Illustration Friday: Float

OK folks,
Here's my first entry for Illustration Friday. My buddy Dennis turned me onto this site and I thought I'd give it a shot. Enjoy! I'd love to hear what anyone thinks about it.
