Once again we’re spreading the love with The Wishlist Foundation. This year we were flattered to be asked to create the gig poster for the Flight To Mars show at The Showbox. The best part is that Mike McCready totally got the little reference we put in the poster that we didn’t think anyone would get. We’ve got numbers 1-25 in the series and plan to make some of them available for purchase so make sure you’re on our mailing list!

Drop-Off a Turkey…Turkey!

Les Nessman may have been traumatized, but down at the Satellite Diner in downtown Spokane they’ve been welcoming them turkeys! Working with Campus Kitchen at Gonzaga, the Satellite has been collecting donated turkeys to help feed everyone this holiday season. These posters have been making their way around town to help raise awareness and to get folks to drop-off those turkeys!

Flight To Mars 09 Ad

Just finished up an ad for the Flight To Mars show coming up on May 2nd in Seattle. This ad will be running in the next issue of Sound Magazine. This was a last minute request to create and it was started at 10pm and finished at 2:30 the morning it was due. Phew, we’re glad it turned out so awesome! Special thanks to Chris, Mike and Ashley for the continued opportunity to do what we love for a worthy cause!

The concept basically started out as a goof on the term “space-suit” and how fun it would be to see an astronaut in a jacket and tie. Once I got the sketch done and started playing around with it the idea became a little more profound given the cause it’s for. The idea grew into this guy delivering the fundraising proceeds in his briefcase to Mars (hence the red/yellow glow from entering the atmosphere). Of course nobody wants the love and compassion to escape out of the briefcase, but it make for a more interesting picture. Rest assured all that goodwill does get where it’s supposed to go!

Wishlist Foundation Ticketbook Covers

It’s that time again and our good friends at The Wishlist Foundation have asked to design some new artwork for the upcoming Flight To Mars show. This year, one of the fundraising items they’re selling are ticketbooks for collecting and storing ticket stubs from concerts. They wanted to do 3 different covers to give buyers a variety to chose from. We came up with some cool art and the response has been terrific!

The first one involves a massive collection of Pearl Jam ticket stubs scattered around. We wanted to do something interesting with the layout so we had the idea of making a star out of the tickets, as the star is part of The Wishlist Foundation’s identity. This one is all about concept and using photos and scans of real world items to create the art.

The second one came from the age old frustration of buying a concert ticket and having to pay for numerous, ridiculous sounding fees. The art depicts the “Board of Directors” from the ticket monopoly we’ve all heard of, and how they’re intertwined with their profits and fees. We started with a simple sketch of one board member and evolved him into his counterparts with some subtle character changes. The carbon copy nature of the board members is a deliberate statement about their common motivations. There is an alternate version of this piece but we’re saving that for later!

The third one is a simple but striking interpretation of a 45″ album and the impact it’s music has on a person. Using bold colors to accentuate the sharp edges gives this image a little kick.

This is our 3rd year now working with The Wishlist Foundation on the annual Flight To Mars show and we’re stoked that they keep coming asking us to participate!

Shadow 86 Jimi Hendrix Tribute show

We recently designed a poster for a Jimi Hendrix tribute show featuring Mike McCready, Shadow 86 and several special guests. This was a fundraiser for the charity organization Soulumination. We had just a few days to design the poster and get the art to D&L Screenprinting in Seattle. Then we flew over from Spokane, picked up the posters less than 2 hours before the show and walked 10 blocks with posters in hand to the Tractor Tavern. We were able to work alongside the awesome folks from Soulumination, ate some good local grub, listened to a great show and got to shake Mike’s hand when it was all over. Then we hopped back on a plane for home around midnight. So worth it!

Flight to Mars 2008 Benefit Artwork

We’re please to once again partner with the Wishlist Foundation to provide artwork for the 2008 Flight to Mars benefit show. Our inspiration was vintage airline advertising with a sci-fi twist. We’ve produced art for a limited edition tote bag, VIP pass to the concert and a full color handbill to be included in the VIP goodie bag. We’ve also launched Mile Hi-Fi Club as a place to put all the other materials we created just for fun. You can find a desktop wallpaper, Flight to Mars paper airplane, a Flight to Mars insignia badge, a flip book, a vintage Flight to Mars Spacelines ad and many other goodies. Plus, you can take a test to determine if you’re mentally fit for space travel. Be sure to check it out – (over)!

Pearl Jam benefit poster for CCFA

UPDATE!
On March 2nd 2007 we won an Addy award for the poster! We’re pretty excited about it, we entered just 2 pieces in a competition that is quite competitive and we were in very good company as far as our competition goes.

A few months ago I contacted the Pearl Jam fan club organization The Wishlist Foundation about doing some artwork for charitable purposes. They were working with the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) to raise money for research. Crohn’s is something I know a lot about, as my cousin suffered from it until her death 10 years ago from complications related to the disease. When I learned that Mike McCready, the lead guitarist for Pearl Jam, had Crohn’s and that there were organizations involved with fundraising to help in the struggle against this disease, I jumped at the chance to get involved. This poster is to coincide with the December 2nd Pearl Jam show in Honolulu Hawaii, 2006. It was a lot of fun, and very meaningful to work on and I’m proud we could do our part…
